Can I tell you, there is evidently a small career to be made of proving that Homer, “author” of The Iliad and The Odyssey, is in fact one person. Is that not the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard?

Itself a version.

A more perfect analogy (bo-ring) would be if Luther Vandross covered Dionne Warwick in a sing-off with Aretha Franklin.

When I read this to Pat, he said for him it’d be Kiki VanDeWeghe. Yo, remember Kelly Tripucka!

Erykah Badu’s “Hello,” a cover of the Isley Brothers’ cover of Todd Rundgren’s song “Hello, It’s Me,” which might make it a double cover, is one of my favorites, fits well into the What If (i.e., it don’t fit), and is just more evidence (along with her live performances, breaking into covers of Lena Horne’s “Believe,” or her whole “Back in the Day” video) of how she is, we are, resplendently citational. Another of my best book ideas is a lyric biography of Erykah Badu.

Yes, the sample is the citation is the cover, even if fragmentarily so. Praise Prince Paul!
